The Study of Religion in Atlantic Canada: Diverse Disciplines,
Theories, Methods and Contexts
May 23-24, 2012, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

This workshop will bring together students
and scholars of religion in the Atlantic region in order to highlight
the diverse kinds of research currently taking place, identify knowledge
gaps in relation to religious diversity in the Atlantic provinces, and
begin the formation of professional networks which are critical to
future research. Alexander Soucy will open the workshop with a keynote
address
Religion
and Transnational Connections. The majority of the
workshop time will feature presentations of the research of thirteen
students at different stages in their academic careers. Topics include
religious issues in contemporary media, women in Christianity, Islam and
Hinduism, as well as historical studies of religion in Newfoundland,
Prince Edward Island, and among Acadians in the Maritimes.
